This work relates to Yerrilil’s homeland, Djawaḻ’ŋur, located in the Buckingham Bay area east of Galiwin’ku (Elcho Island). Centrally depicted is the Ḏaymirri (ceremonial pole). In this story, the Yaḻurr (sea snake) and the Ḏaymirri are swimming around a sandbar at Djawaḻ’ŋur. “They swim from the bottom to the top to meet the land and come back again.” to country named Djarraya in the east, and then back again. Yerrilil explains, “Ḏaymirri is dharpa (tree/wood), Yaḻurr is sea snake, but they can swim together.”
The rärrk (cross-hatching) represents moṉuk gapu (saltwater), Dhuwa moiety waters where the two totems live together and travel the same water channels. When asked about this story, Yerrilil is humble, he says “You don’t know, I don’t know. I just heard a story from my father”.
Yaḻurr and Ḏaymirri belong to the Djambarrpuyŋu people and are celebrated in their ceremonies.

All Domestic Shipping is included within the costs of works. International shipping rates will be charged separately at the end of the online fair. Please contact us for rates.
We will begin packing artworks at the conclusion of the online fair, please allow 1-3 weeks for delivery depending on the scale of the work and final destination.
Small works (under 105cm) will be sent with Australia Post with tracking if email is provided. Please check your spam folder for Auspost Tracking message
Larger works will be sent to Darwin with Fly Tiwi or Barge Express (depending on dimensions and weight) to be delivered to final destination by TNT couriers or DHL (for international customers).
