Ngargaroon is the traditional name known to be called Texas Downs, it is also my Mother’s Country. Within my artwork I have divided my canvas board into three sections – each panel is associated with Ngargaroon’s natural landscapes, as well as memories of my upbringing – being out on country with my elders and family.

The top section in this painting describes the beautiful rugged hills “in Warmun where I am from – standing on my Mother’s front verandah looking out the front into the far distance where the hills of Texas can easily be seen.”

Seen in the middle panel are triangular shapes painted in beautiful ochre colours, they are depictions of the many flat rock slates that lay scattered on my Mother’s Country. As a child I used to build flat stone houses out of them. Me and the other children in my community were content happily playing for hours building stone houses

Lastly, the last section describes the hidden waterholes that lay amongst the wilderness on my Mother’s Country. “It is after the wet season I like to be out on country where everything is fresh and green and the creeks and waterholes are overflowing with plenty of fish and bush tucker such as Bush Turkey, Goanna and Kangaroo.”
