Errol Evans
Maruku ArtsErrol Evans is originally from Djabugay and Western Yalanji country from far North Queensland. He was trained by his grandfather Ron Richards when he started doing carvings to help out in the holidays at the age of 16. He now lives in Railway Bore near Indulkana on the APY Lands in South Australia with his Yankunytjatjara wife Tanya Singer. They form a strong carving team bringing traditions from the wet tropics and the desert together.
He specialises in weapons that have the traditional forms of North Queensland with his own contemporary twist and they are mostly carved in wood from the Central Desert. This unique combination makes his work very special within the punu making community.
He works currently on a design project with Trent Jansen. In 2023 he presented his first furniture design at the Melbourne Design Fair and in Fremantle.
