Loretta Carroll
Walkatjara ArtLoretta Carroll grew up in Mutitjulu with her mother and father, three sisters and one brother. She has been painting from a young age, and learnt to paint her culture and Tjukurpa from her aunt, artist and Aṉangu cultural tour-guide Millie Coulthard. Now, she is passing on this knowledge to her own children.
Most often, Loretta paints Irmangka Irmangka (Bush medicine) and pantu (salt lakes), a culturally significant site that forms part of the Seven Sisters songline. For Loretta, it also brings back happy memories of going to visit them with her family as a little girl.
When she is not painting at Walkatjara, Loretta works at Nyangatjatjara College as a teacher’s aid.
