Manany Gurruwiwi

Manany is the daughter of the famous artist Mithinarri Gurruwiwi. Along with her sister Djul’djul’ and brother Watjuku, she has inherited much painting knowledge and skill. All three artists also share the same Gumatj mother, Duwambu Burarrwaŋa.

Manany is married to a Dhaḻwaŋu man and spends her time at Gurrumuru, Galiwin’ku and Gunyaŋara’ communities. Common themes she paints are Wititj the olive python, Djaykuŋ the javanese filesnake, Guḏurrku the brolga, Guŋaluŋ the blue-tongue lizard, Biḏam the long tom and Dhatam, or water-lilies, with the dots and crosshatch representing waltjan, or rain, and djäri, rainbow. Lately she has gained a substantial reputation making animals out of fibre work and also wood sculptures of worrwurr, owls.
