Napurrawuy #2 Wunuŋmurra
Buku-Larrnggay MulkaNapurrawuy’s father was the Gurrumuru leader Nyikamula. His mother is Baḻatj, her father was Djutjadjutja and his father Wonggu – both of whom are famous artists. He is the younger brother of Datjirri #2 Wunuŋmurra, a young man groomed for influence, whose artistic career has inspired Napurrawuy to follow in his footsteps.
Napurrawuy shows great promise and has been identified as one of the up and coming artists of his generation. He lives at Wanḏawuy community outstation where he occasionally makes artworks for sale which include yiḏaki, carvings and small bark paintings. His yiḏaki have been well received among the international community of didjeridu players and collectors. This is due to their distinctive natural bore and finish, plus the fact they are often decorated with earth pigments with sacred designs from his clan, the Dhalwaŋu.
