Rex Cotchilli

Rex Cotchilli has strong painting lineage, connected to the old men of Papunya Tula, he is the first grandson of renowned Warlayirti artist Tjumpo Tjapanangka (dec), Rex grew up in Balgo and continues to live here with his family.

Rex joined Warlayirti Artists on a Connection to Country camp to his ancestral lands, Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) in 2022, this was the first time Rex had stepped foot on his Country. Rex spirit was lifted during this trip, as he was able to learn from old people, see his Country and pride in himself. Once back from the trip, Rex was eager to paint his Country. From his first painting it was evident of his skill, and his natural ‘papunya’ optical style.
