Rubyanne Djindata
Milingimbi Art and CultureRubyanne Djindata is a young weaver who comes from a long line of artists on her mother’s side, including her mother Sia Walabanda, grandmother (märi) Emma Gundurrubuy, great-grandmother (waku) Rose Bindilbindil. She learned her mother’s clan stories from Timothy Miliŋinbilil, her mother’s father (ŋathi).
“I thought I’d just try”, she says. She has begun by making mats and earrings, but she is thinking of trying painting, learning from her uncle Darryl Yatjany.
Djindata grew up at Milingimbi and continues to live here with her young family.
