Station managers used to stay here at Millstream homestead. Aboriginal women used to come here to work for them, cooking, cleaning, looking after the station manager’s children while the men used to do all the station work. The Aboriginal workers on the station had to work from dawn till dusk.
Because Aboriginal people weren’t allowed to take their own children to the homestead, they had to leave them behind at the Workers’ Camp all day, hoping the older children would look after all the younger ones.
Yindjibarndi Elders remember when they were children taking the younger kids to the cow paddock so they could feed from a cow’s udder.
