Red Butte is a large red hill on Ngargooroon Country, which lies north and east of Warmun. This Country is now known as Texas Downs Station.

Jane says “In the early days a young woman from Mabel Downs Station went hunting for sugarbag (honey). She got lost and kept walking this way, on to Lolly Creek and then ended up in a cave in Red Butte. She stayed there for good. This is the yellow cave in the middle of the painting that you can see. She turned wild, and couldn’t go back to the station. She got used to being on her own and ran away when she saw people. The cave lies in these hills.”
