The triangular shapes around the edge of this painting are waŋupini (monsoon clouds), which signify the burrutji, the lightning snake, depicted centre. This snake lives in the saltwater and is dark yellow in colour. The diamonds are muŋurru, the ripple effects on the surface of the water with the incoming tide. This miny’tji (design) belongs to the Birrkili clan nation from the interior of Hardy Island – Ḻuŋgutja. The artist relates to this miny’tji as waku (neice).
