Our connection to our Kokoberrin homelands is integral to our sense of identity. Spending time on country with our loved ones is what keeps us grounded and connected. This artwork depicts a cherished memory of my family and I fishing for saltwater fish and mussel shells on the banks of Nassau and Staaten River. We call out to the spirits on the other side
of the river, asking for their blessings so they provide our families and community with an abundance of fish. I have used blue tones in this piece to capture the colours of the water. The small circles symbolise the movement in the water, while the white circles are representational of the froth on the top of the water which indicates to us that there are a large group of fish coming in with the tide. This artwork serves as a tribute to our traditions and the importance of our connection to our land and waterways.
